Common questions
How much of my savings is protected?
Up to £120,000 per person, per banking licence. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) limit rose from £85,000 to £120,000 on 1 December 2025.
Why does the banking licence matter?
The limit is per licence, not per brand. If two names share one licence, your money across both counts towards one £120,000 limit. For example, £100,000 in Barclays and £50,000 in Tesco Bank is £150,000 under one limit, so £30,000 isn't protected.
Who does the FSCS protect?
Savers with banks, building societies and credit unions authorised in the UK, if the firm fails.
